Our team was called to a residential property in Clovelly to inspect a leaking tap located on the external wall of the building. Upon arrival, we discovered the isolation control valve was leaking due to a broken washer and signs of general wear. The valve was part of an older system that had become incompatible with modern plumbing fittings.
We initially attempted to replace the T-head on the valve, but due to its outdated thread design, it was not possible to fit the new component correctly. To temporarily restore function, we serviced the valve and replaced the washer. This provided a short-term fix and allowed the water supply to remain operational.
After discussing the issue with the owner, we returned to site to carry out a permanent solution. Our local Clovelly plumbers cut out the old isolation tap and replaced it with a new, durable long-handle ball valve designed for modern plumbing systems. While on site, we also replaced the adjacent control valve servicing another unit, as it shared the same outdated design and posed a future risk of leakage.
With both units now equipped with modern, reliable control valves, the risk of further leaks has been eliminated. This upgrade not only resolves the immediate issue but also improves the long-term functionality and safety of the water supply system.
